What is 5G and what does it mean for you?
5G on 02 is the latest generation of mobile connectivity. Offering faster speeds and lower latency compared to 4G, it means you can get a stronger and more reliable connection. It also promises delay-free downloads and buffer-free streaming when you're on the go. Explore more about the benefits of 5G on O2 – and see what you can do.
What is 5G Standalone
5G Standalone is our new, separate network that provides even better reliability – as well as more advanced features to come over time. It's different to our non-standalone network, which is built on top of our existing 4G network. Find out more about 5G Standalone – like where it's currently available, what devices are compatible, and SIM requirements
How to use 5G on your device?
All our Pay Monthly and SIM Only deals come with 5G included – so all you'll need is to get it is a compatible mobile phone and be in an area with coverage. Most new devices we sell are now 5G-enabled already. If you don't yet have one, take a look at our range of handsets.
How do I activate 5G on my device?
If your device is 5G ready, it will usually already be set up to receive 5G services. But you can still double check it's turned using our device support guides.
Where can I find 5G coverage?
O2 offers 5G connectivity to more than 50% of the UK population – covering in excess of 4,000 UK towns, cities and villages. Use our online 5G coverage checker to discover if you're in one of them.
I don’t have 5G coverage – but the coverage checker says I should?
We try to make sure our coverage checker is as accurate as possible. But, because it's based on predictions, it can never be 100% accurate. Trees, buildings and hills can all affect actual coverage, for example. And we'll update our coverage checker to factor in these limitations that may affect your 5G experience.
When will O2 5G be in my area?
As we prepare to switch off our 3G network in 2025, we're continuing to invest in our network so that more of our customers can enjoy the benefits of 5G. Our online coverage checker will keep you up to date with all areas that are served by our 5G network.
