4G speeds and coverage
4G speeds will vary depending on location and the number of people using the service. If you’re having issues with your 4G network, use our status checker to identify and report any problems.

Investing in our 4G network
Although our 4G network now covers over 99% of the UK population indoors, we’re committed to improving 4G connectivity across the UK through continued investment and innovation.
As part of the Shared Rural Network, alongside other UK operators, Ofcom and government, we’ll be able to boost UK landmass coverage from 64% to 88% and, for the very first time, bring 4G to 1800 square miles of the UK that have been left with little to no reception.
In June 2024, we completed this first phase of this program, bringing reliable 4G coverage to 227 rural communities across the UK. Find out more here.
As we roll out our 5G network, we’ll continue to create more capacity for customers on our 4G network. One of the ways we’re doing this is by repurposing some of our 3G spectrum to be used for 4G, giving more capacity and increasing speeds. Deploying additional spectrum in this way enabled us to enhance 4G capacity and improve throughout by up to 35% for around 200,000 UK postcodes in 2019.
