What's happening?

We’re upgrading our Pay as You Go mobile service to give you a better experience with your device.

If you have an older SIM, we’ll be in touch by text between September 2024 and April 2025, advising that you need to upgrade your SIM.

A new SIM will give you access to better data speeds and a more reliable connection. It’ll also enable you in the future to access new technologies such as 5G, calling over WiFi and 4G Calling if your device allows.

Why do you need to update your SIM?

By April 2025, older O2 2G SIMs will no longer be able to connect to our network, so if you’re affected and no action is taken, you’ll lose service.

2G and 3G services have now been superseded by newer 4G and 5G technologies. Our latest SIMs are still compatible with 2G and 3G devices, but also offer increased coverage and faster speeds from our more energy-efficient network coverage masts.

What do you need to do?

Have we sent you a text? Or do you have an older SIM that doesn’t allow you to access our 4G network? If so, you can ask for your SIM replacement in any of our stores or call 4445 free from your O2 phone or 0344 809 0202 from any other phone, standard UK charges apply.
